80x44x44” hard candy and steel
A collaboration: Jennifer Lynn Stewart Watson and David Page
Reinforced radial claw-like steel plates sandwich a large piece of candy.
Pressure is maintained via a large central wing-nut, periodically adjusted as the candy deforms as a result of moisture and heat.
A stop atop the threaded rod, bearing the wing-nut prevents the piece from being disassembled, thwarting would-be vandals, mischief-makers and scavengers.
The steel plates measure 44” in diameter. The candy weighs approximately 500 pounds, made from corn syrup and sugar.
Hard candy, cooking and casting: Ms. Watson.
Steel claws and hardware, manipulation and fabrication: Mr. Page
Sturdy but elegant concrete pedestal: The City of Baltimore (thanks city!)
